On the 16th March, the members of the AusRFS (NSW) held a display stall at the West Ryde Chamber of Commerce
Easter Parade and Market Day.
Our stall was sponsored by West Ryde Pet and Aquarium Store, and we were there at 8am to set up for what proved to
be a very successful day.
The day started with Karen Francis, Kerry Mullampy and a bunch of rats and mice - which we were using to show the public just how
varied rats and mice can be, and how wonderful and cuddly and responsive they can be as pets for people of all ages. We had a great
response from the public - a few of the usual "Oh my god, they're rats!" were heard, but the majority of the people were curious to
learn more about our pets, which was great.
We were joined mid morning by the Stalker family, whose rats relieved the somewhat tired and fed up rats of Kerry's and Karen's. Early
afternoon Karen Riddell, and Rebecca Lavender-Roberts and Graeme Anderson turned up to give their support.
The day turned out to be sunny and great, and thanks to Doug and Linda from West Ryde Pet and Aquarium, we had the best seat in the
house - the only stall under cover!
We managed to home two of our rescue ratties, and hopefully, from the response shown, will have other people interested in rescues.
I would like to thank all who turned up to help make the day a hit, hopefully we will be doing these sorts of days often in an effort
to show that no, we are not strange, rats and mice really are wonderful!
